  1. Extend Tool.
  2. The extend tool lengthens an object so that it meets a boundary object.
  3. Lines, arcs, open polygons , and open polylines can be extended.  The extend tool will only extend an object if it will intersect a boundary object when lengthened.  Boundary objects include lines, arcs, rectangles, polylines, ovals, and polygons.  The extend tool has two modes, extend object to boundary object and extend object to nearest selected boundary object.
